each year, it is the Latino population that represents approximately 65% of the Center’s total patient population. While The Childrens Center for Cancer and Blood Diseases provides optimal medical attention for these children, Padres works toward providing educational guidance, crisis intervention counseling, financial assistance and referrals to social resources. Padres offers these services by partnering with families, healthcare professionals, psychologists, social workers and community members to assess the emotional needs of childhood patients and their families. "We were talking about the importance of getting the Ivan & Sam project into the Latino market and were discussing ways to accomplish the particular goal’", states President Karen Shayne. "With Neil (Carrey) currently serving as President of Padres, it seemed like a perfect fit. Padres has a cartoon character as their mascot named Esperanza. Since Ivan & Sam were also cartoon characters, why not bring the two together in a video segment. We are excited about continuing to find avenues the two can work together to achieve the same goal - to ease the pain of children fighting this terrible disease." |

“The goals of the Childrens Center for Cancer and Blood Diseases at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles are to develop treatments that will cure children and teens with cancer and other blood diseases and insure that they will emerge from their treatment psychologically and physically whole. As a result of major advances in research, the majority of children with cancer will be cured of their disease. It is natural, therefore, for the Center to partner with the Ivan and Sam Foundation whose purpose is to help children cope with the diagnosis and treatment of these devastating diseases and emerge from that ordeal to go on and lead productive and fulfilling lives.”
